Aaron Chang

As a force in visually defining the sport of surfing Aaron has pursued his photography to the far ends of the earth. For 25 years, as a senior photographer for Surfing magazine, Aaron was at the core of the surfing world discovering new talent and surf spots on a global scale. Having traveled to 40+ countries in search of the perfect adventure Aaron's work has graced the covers of over 100 magazines. In the commercial photography realm Aaron's photographic skills have landed him work with clients like Levi's, Macy's, Nike, Billabong, Yamaha, Polaris, ESPN and Sanuk. He has been featured on Fuel TV, PBS, and is currently the subject of a documentary film in production on surf photographers. In addition to photography Aaron is the owner of a photo driven apparel line, Aaron Chang, sold in stores such as Victoria Secret, Macy's and Urban Outfitters. Currently residing in San Diego, California, Aaron is a believer, husband and father of 2 boys. An avid surfer, Aaron aspires to surf "as long as my friend Rabbit Kekai."

Amber Terranova

Amber Terranova keeps a constant eye on emerging photographers and cutting edge trends as the photo editor at Photo District News magazine. Her career has focused mostly on editorial work, with positions at New York magazine and Outside magazine in Santa Fe New Mexico, all the while working on international commercial advertising shoots, industry programming, and photo consulting.

SoCal Photo contest judge, Nan Oshin

Nan Oshin

Nan Oshin is currently a design consultant and creative director. She has worked with clients including Billboard magazine, the Carlyle Hotel, the Capital Group, Costco, C magazine, the Oracle Corporation, the Ritz Carlton Hotel Group, Warner Brothers, and WW Norton. She has extensive experience in the creative direction and design of magazines, most recently as the senior art director at the Los Angeles Times Sunday magazine. She has won awards for art direction and design, and has juried and curated numerous photography and design competitions and shows.

SoCal Photo contest judge, Roy Toft

Roy Toft

Dedicated to documenting our natural world for future generations, professional photographer Roy Toft is an accomplished conservation photographer. With a background in wildlife and conservation biology, Toft chooses to focus solely on wild images that convey a sense of the animal's character and spirit. His images have been featured in National Geographic, Smithsonian, Audubon, Wildlife Conservation, Discover magazines and other notable publications to advance conservation efforts globally. As a result, he has been named a founding fellow of the prestigious International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP). Toft's striking wildlife images are also available worldwide through the National Geographic Image Collection and Getty Images. Roy shares his love for teaching & photography by regularly instructing photographic classes, tour groups and workshops in the field. Roy's popular Rainforests of Costa Rica workshop was recently filmed for television. The show, Fine Living Network's Fantasy Camp, has appeared on television and airline flights. His home office is in the scenic mountainous region of beautiful north county San Diego.

The Southern California Face and Places Photo Contest is a competition that is a showcase of the very best of photography in and around Southern California. This juried photo contest offers great exposure to both professional and amateur photographers with a wide range of categories including people, animals/pets, nature/envorinment, beach life, and action sports. This is an opportunity for your photos to be reviewed by professional photographers and to win great prizes. Winners will be selected on the basis of creativity, originality, sense of place, capturing the moment and concept execution.
